Mackie Lake Tea House

By chance, we stumbled upon Mackie Lake Tea House in Coldstream, a small community minutes from downtown Vernon. Bestowed to the Mackie Lake House Foundation this property is meant to be accessed and enjoyed by the public, and it is.

The grounds are spectacular and true to the essence of the era. Built in 1910, the subterranean root cellar and gardens are steeped in culinary history and tastefully included in guided tours of the property.

Open year round, the house is splendid in the summer, which is when we visited. Lakeshore views from the tearoom are breathtaking with the welcoming verandas inviting guests to step back in time to a simpler moment meant to be savoured.

Tea Parties, mini garden concerts and private events are hosted on the property where High Tea and old-fashioned hospitality are served in traditionally delicate portions. COVID 19 restrictions in place.

Valley Vagabonds Inside Tip

Get into the Christmas spirit by booking a guided tour of the house and property for $10 a person. Rumour has it the house is magnificent throughout the holiday season with carollers and bakers filling the air with spirited songs and succulent smells.
