The International Hike and Bike Trail is easily accessed from the town of Oliver and consists of a mostly paved, well-maintained trail that meanders alongside the Okanagan River covering a total distance of 18 km – a relaxing pedal. This trail’s a rambler and on its vagabond it passes through oxbows, ponds and pocket deserts, offering magnificent opportunities to experience the valley up close and personal. We suggest you pack binoculars and a camera as this is the trail that will most likely interact with ducks, herons, eagles and painted turtles in their natural habitat.

You’ll also want to pack a bathing suit and towel just in case you want to take a dip in the river – the towel is also perfect to lay out on the grassy banks for a leisurely picnic lunch.

If you want a little more cycling in wine country head on over to Naramata Bench. In the off-season, you will be able to navigate the main road between wineries more safely as you make your way to Little Tunnel and the sights beyond. If you don’t have your own wheels there are e-bike rentals available, just be sure to check ahead.

Valley Vagabonds Inside Tip

This is a year-round playground and trail that provides a glimpse into the ever-changing wonders that accompany each season. In autumn, salmon spawn in the Okanagan River, which is a protected waterway, and in winter the flat accessible trail is perfect for snow-shoeing when snow’s available.
