Burrowing Owl Estate Winery

Nagging Doubt artisanal wines bear handcrafted labels chalked by Dana Tanamachi

One of the better-known wineries in the Valley, Burrowing Owl is a quintessential favorite of the locals. Their mantra is “It’s All About the Wine” and this commitment to excellence is evident in the way the winery balances business and sustainability through earth-friendly practices. Founder Jim Wyse respects the land and all of the life forms that call it home. The proclamation on their website “to do no harm” underlies the creative viticultural and enological practices undertaken at Burrowing Owl - located in one of Canada’s most unique and sensitive eco-systems.

Over the years we’ve made many scenic trips to this southern gem and are always impressed by their newest efforts to leave a smaller footprint on our planet. This year they’re installing several electric car stations for those arriving gas-free but regardless of how you arrive, know that you’ll be sampling some of the best wines produced in the Okanagan. This winery charges a modest tasting fee which helps support causes near and dear to their hearts – which is why they’ve stole the heart of these vagabonds. COVID 19 protocols apply.

Valley Vagabonds Inside Tip

This is not a sip and rip destination but more of a savouring stop. Make sure to carve out some time to explore the property with your camera. With more than 100 bluebird boxes and two bat nurseries, ground nests of meadowlarks and antelope there’s a good possibility of encountering some of the local residents – plus an amazing sunset.
