Armstrong IPE and Rodeo check status

Armstrong-IPE.jpg

As former Calgarians who grew up with the Calgary Stampede entrenched deep into our psyche we really needed to check out the Armstrong IPE and Rodeo - or as the locals say, “the most fun you can have in the Okanagan with your boots on”. Well not sure about that but what we can tell you is that it’s a show stopping good time for the whole family!

Fairly priced, as far as exhibitions go, the midway has an impressive assortment of rides for all ages. There are the usual games, overstuffed animals and mini donuts but there is also a good representation of local artisans, businesses and trades in attendance.

Parking is done in fields, with tractors pulling toggled carts of revellers to and from the grounds which are located in Armstrong. This town has a real ranch and agricultural vibe which makes it the perfect host for both the exhibition and rodeo.

We were fortunate to attend the rodeo and local bunkhouse tent for pulled pork and beers. A player on the cowboy circuit (professional rodeo tour) you get a great view of the competitors in what is touted as the best rodeo west of the Rockies. And may we add, the fireworks and entertainment are a pretty darn good as well. Yahoo! Check for 2021 COVID restrictions.

Valley Vagabonds Inside Tip

The IPE Parade is scheduled in September most years and runs down Pleasant Valley Road. With over 120 years of agriculture and rodeo tradition associated with the IPE this is an event you will want to check back for.
